MAKARS MUSHROOM EMPORIUM
DESCEND INTO OUR WEIRD & WONDERFUL UNDERGROUND WORLD WHERE WE GROW OUR OWN LION’S MANE AND OYSTER MUSHROOMS
You may have seen that our menu has a brand new section : MAKARS MUSHROOMS
It all started when John (our Chief Makar) met Chris (a fun guy) when they were both out, skating.
Chris was growing mushrooms, we had a mushroom dish on the menu and a lot of space in the basement. The collaboration made sense immediately.
With the immediate success of the mushroom dishes, we’ve had to expand our growing facilities. In Autumn 2023 we took over a part of Summer Hall in order to produce more Lion’s Mane mushrooms.
You’ve all seen our extension at 12 Bank Street but downstairs, Chris (Some Funguys) and the Makars team have created something you’ve never seen before.
Dark lighting, UV paint (by Catch the 22), eerie music, ancient building, floor to ceiling tubes to grow mushrooms; they all combine to create a unique atmosphere.
This smaller mushroom growing farm will give you an insight into our Summer Hall project.
The project aligns with the council’s food growing strategy, aiming to produce nutritious food with minimal transportation, using an underutilised space, and repurposing waste products.
Please feel free to visit our Mushroom Emporium before or after your meal. Follow the signs leading downstairs and … Enter at your own risk !
We call it “Basement-to-Table-Magic” !
