To Make a Booking

I solemnly pinky-promise that if for any reason I cannot make this booking, I will do everything I can to let Makars know.

I acknowledge that Makars is a business and that no-show reservations are harmful to businesses.

Waitlist

To get your name on the waitlist, come to DOOR #2. We will take your details and message you when the table is ready.

You have 10 minutes to make your way back to Makars until we give your table away. Please come back at the given time even if you haven’t received a text message; some foreign mobile operators do not work well with our texting system or you could be enjoying a drink in a pub with no reception.

Please remember that in the evening, our waitlist can close early on. We recommend you do not leave it too late.

We close the waiting list when it reaches 90 mins as we don’t think anyone should wait that long for a meal

Makars FAQ

Where are you located? : Our Mound location connects Edinburgh’s Old Town with the New Town. Ideally located a short walk away from the Castle, Waverley train station and most central hotels.

Do you take Group Bookings?  Due to our size, the biggest group we can accommodate is 8 people. We are unable to make any exception.

Do you allow dogs?  Although we love dogs, they are not allowed inside our restaurant. They’re welcome on the terrace in Summer.

Dietary Information

We offer an interesting range of vegetarian and vegan dishes.

We have a nut-free kitchen.

Virtually all our dishes are Gluten Free.

All our food is cooked using traditional Scottish cooking methods. This means meats are cooked in Whisky, Red Wine (not cooking wine), Local Port Sherry and Craft beer. Some gravies also contain also contain wine & whisky for flavour. Alcohol burns off at 78c, so the alcohol is completely burnt off during cooking for everything. We cannot change this.

Our meat is provided by local farmers/butchers and customs. It is not halal; we have plenty of plant options.
